Gap Year Experience

While you are travelling the world having finished University or School, come and play your favourite sport with the worlds best teachers and players in a setting like no other, whether you have a spare week or few months between island hoping the Pacific or learning to surf in Australia. The opportunity to work, play and learn from polo’s leading players and horse trainers is too good to miss!

Ainsley Polo, has always been a sought after facility for players, from all corners of the globe. Whether it be high goal players looking to buy horses or up and coming players looking to improve their horsemanship skills or playing skills. Those who want to learn and improve their game, and discover the secret to producing and maintaining a great polo pony, come and stay at Ainsley Polo.

You will be hard pushed to find a player on a polo field anywhere on the international polo circuit who hasn’t heard of or ridden an Ainsley polo pony. You can stick and ball, rubbing shoulders on and off the field with  high goal international players such as Glenn Sherriff (5 goals), Nick Pepper (4 goals), Jack Richardson (6 goals), Tom Morley (6 goals),  Niall Donnelley (4 goals), Ryan Pemble (5 goals), David Stirling (10 goals) or Gareth Evans (6 goals) and it is not just the boys who you will find, we have a number of female players who have also finely tuned their polo skills on the Ainsley polo field Lottie Lamacraft (UK 3 goals), Claire Brougham (UK 6 goals), April Kent (IRE 3 goals) and Sian Barnacle (UK 6 goals), all of whom have represented their  countries in the sport. . There is never a shortage of players or talent on the field because of the continual stream of young up and coming players who want to see how far their talent will get them and improve their horsemanship and reach their full potential.

We offer two options for young players to come and improve their polo skills and horsemanship:

GAP YEAR Week Intensive:

Come and stay for a week during high season, play chukkas with high goal players who will encourage and give you tips to improve your game and your horsemanship. See how an enterprise with over 200 horses playing and learning, is run and managed.

GAP YEAR Work Experience:

Come and stay for a longer period of time to really get stuck in with the nitty gritty of training and playing a large number of horses, whichever part of polo you want to learn about there will be a time of year suited to your visit, whether it be breaking in, young horse chukkas, high goal chukkas, or more experience on an international playing field. Be warned this is not for the faint hearted!
